    I don’t really get why datacenters want more nuclear power. Hinkley Point C is now under construction for 8 years and will take at least 6 more years. By then, the whole current AI hype will long have flattened off.

      Because demanding more nuclear power is free and feeds into the hype train.

      Are they going to sign a contract committing to future energy use at a particular rate, so that we can build new power stations? Of course not, they don’t believe the AI hype that much.

      But they will pretend they really need it.

    If AI data centre needs nuclear power stations to power them, they can build them themselves. It’s not down to the government to subsidise their needs.

    Let the companies eat the FULL cost.
