        Fun fact, “orange” was first used as a colour in the sixteenth century and prior to that many orange-coloured objects were referred to as red.

    Maybe printer manufacturers are roleplaying as a pigment merchant from the 14th century.

    That would explain the price and apparent scarcity.

    But lo, I needeth it not for this tax form. I needeth only black. Why can you not simply print using the black ink?

    If you’re using a brother printer you can just cover the ink “window” on the empty cartridge with black electrical tape. The printer will yell at you for using 3rd party ink, but after that it will let you print.

      This is why some copiers won’t work if they run out of a color.

      Some models use all colors to make a deeper black.
