I can’t look at the news, people get so high and mighty when you tell them you avoid politics. Even if you still vote.

“You’re the reason why there’s so and so ruining things!!”

“I guess you don’t care about your future huh?”

“Yeah go hide in your hole”

Bitch, I have HEART PROBLEMS from stress, I literally cannot be absorbing that shit. And even if I didn’t have this problem, fucking leave it, it’s not your business how people try to cope in this shit hole of a reality,

Everyone has a response to this that contains a “but”

Being overly informed is a trap. You definitely don’t need to know every bowel movement Trump takes. I’m sure they’ll eventually prove scientifically that consuming the constant barrage of doom news impairs your ability to effectively plan, reason, and organize. The political news ecosystem in this country seems intended to give everyone ADHD.

To clarify though, the news isn’t really politics. The news is theatre.

I agree that people can live their reality how they want but it also has to be remembered that everything is political so if you avoid politics it’s hard to complain when things aren’t going your way. Particularly if you live in a democratic system.

This video by the UK’s Electoral Commission always sticks in my mind about politics

I feel like you’re sidestepping my entire point here. Nobody who’s actively avoiding politics is complaining about things not going their way, they’re too busy focusing on their mental health.

Bullshit. People avoid politics and have loud opinions all the time. I understand your burden, the state of the world is depressing af, but to claim that the ignorant keep their opinions to themselves is absurd.

This is exactly what I was talking about though, I’ve told you “I avoid politics” and here you are hounding me about my decision.

What I would prefer to happen is the default response is “oh yeah, okay.” But no, people can’t help but weigh in with their opinions

Probably because it concerns the literal fate of the fucking world and is something that people have a responsibility to give a shit about. People refusing to pay attention to politics is how we got in this mess in the first place. It is more important now than maybe ever before.

Or, well, it was, round a year or so ago. These days, yeah, might as well just check out, it’s probably not getting any better from here. You missed the boat for that.

People can’t help but weigh in with their opinions because you’re loud and proud about shirking your responsibility as a citizen while the rest of us watch our nation collapse around our ears primarily because of uninformed or apathetic voters just like you.

I don’t want to have to care about politics any more than you do but in our current times we all must care about politics. You don’t have to get so riled up about it that you agitate your heart problems, but you do have a responsibility to fill out a ballot as well as to be informed before you mark that ballot.

I don’t think that you are a bad person, but I do think your demographic is as much to blame as the actual fascists for the problems we face today. I’m sorry to break that to you in such a fashion. If we are allowed another free election in our lifetime, because that is now in question, please pay attention to it.

Glad you got that out of your system. Meanwhile, I’ll continue voting in the primaries, blissfully unaware of Trump’s daily activities.

You’ve built up a whole story about what you assume I think, written a couple of emotionally charged paragraphs about me and “my demographic?” That’s a lot of effort you could be spending on actually working towards the changes you want. And as I already said, I’m still not interested.

I’m gonna do me. Seriously, you’ll be a lot happier online if you learn to chill about other people’s lives.

Right, you’ll remain “blissfully unaware”, how very convenient of you to not be brown, female, or LGBT. Those people and the people who care about them cannot afford to be “blissfully unaware”. Once they’re out of the way and things start impacting you personally then you’ll start to care. By then it will be so far past too late that “too late” isn’t even visible over the horizon anymore.

These things are already impacting you now, you’re just refusing to see it. We are at a point where we cannot progress without collective action. We cannot achieve collective action without a modicum of people looking out their window and seeing what’s going on outside. That’s all I ask of anyone.

This isn’t out of my system, it isn’t going to be out of my system until my nation and preferably the rest of the world is no longer being overrun with fascists. I obviously care about this a lot more than you do and that’s fine. I’m not asking you to get out and march in the streets. I’m asking you (and not necessarily you in particular, I’m asking everyone) to please lose this flippant “I don’t care about politics” attitude because it is getting our nation ruined and it is going to get your neighbors killed. I have family and friends and coworkers that are afraid for their lives and livelihoods right now. This isn’t something I’m just going to “get out of my system” by being condescended to.

You can still get armed and ready. You could be ready to save a person you love’s life. That’s something you can do about it.

Sorry for the US Defaultism. You probably can’t even get a machete. Nothing stopping you from making your own with paracord or something for the handle.

            Are crossbows illegal?

              In my country (Germany)

Crossbows are legal to own and sell for adults. They are allowed to be shot at certified locations (i.e. shooting ranges) but not necessarily on your own property. You need a license for shooting them on your own property if the energy of the projectile exceeds 7.5 Joules. In comparison, a 9mm pistol shoots projectiles with 300-500 Joules.

              Basically (for crossbows):

              • 0 - 0.08 Joules: toy, freely available
              • 0.08 - 0.5 Joules: toy, only available for children over 14
              • 0.5 - 7.5 Joules: weapon, license free for adults, shooting on your own property is allowed
              • >7.5 Joules: weapon, shooting on your own property is only permitted with a license

For comparison: a 9mm pistol shoots with 300-500 Joules.

Why would you want a crossbow though? Keep in mind that you are not allowed to use weapons for self-defense, even if you don’t need a license for them. Furthermore, I’m not sure whether you are allowed to publicly carry the crossbow at all.

Very interesting info, thanks. I just mentioned them because they’re fun to shoot and wondered if they were illegal. I know you have your own problems with AFD but the situation here is a bit more dire.

Its ok :) I think people having weapons is a source of a lot of bad things, but also a lot of good things. So its a mixed bag. I dont like being in a country where I cant protect my family from intruders. But I like that its rare with school shootings.

Im not prepping for doomsday, I think its better to die in that scenario. But having some form of self defence, im all in favor for that. Police comes after someone has been murdered, not before.
