Anonymity and group think are serious fucking drugs here - a lot of people struggle with empathy normally but even more fail to empathize across the internet. We’re all fucking people at the end of the day but some folks struggle to see other usernames as anything but “the other”.

Additionally this thread + comment system rewards extremism and controversy over reason and nuance - its much faster to absorb a comment of someone dunking on someone else than reading a well thought out of comment… the highest votes tend to go to shorter simpler statements.

Violence is inherently simple and easy to comprehend - it’s extreme and edgy - and it’s something a lot of us constantly see on these devices when playing video games. A lot of people who espouse it on the internet don’t mentally equate advocacy for violence with actual physical violence or can’t really comprehend what actual physical violence looks and feels like.

The confusing thing is that the world is now running SSL by default so even with a proxy that traffic is hidden to intermediaries… so the distinction means a lot less than it once did.

Wouldn’t the elimination of taxes on tips entrench that non-taxable income as something servers would die before ever surrendering? Treating it as income means that whether that money is coming from hourly vs. tips is irrelevant and, at the end of the day, hourly compensation is always more reliable if all else is equal.

Better - I don’t give a shit about richer/poorer because the quality of life is clearly higher and that’s the only reason to care about wealth.

Food prices are extremely reasonable and often below American prices.

European cities are also safer not because there isn’t crime but because the design creates a lot more continuous safe spaces where there are plenty of witnesses and other folks.

Lastly, European Healthcare is much better in terms of cost and quality but if you need something that you can’t get done or done in a timely fashion it’s harder to afford health care tourism.

I dislike the elimination of taxes on tips because it opens a new loophole for rich assholes but I’m 100% behind eliminating sub-minimum wages.
