Maybe it’s just me but it seems the synchronization of public opinion on reddit / lemmy with Empire seems to be getting worse. (EDIT: It seems to be getting more “convincing”)

Like there was some opposition from the “progressives” and “leftists” about the Juan Guaidó sham and you could argue about it without getting downvoted into oblivion, but now very few dare to talk about the latest attempt to capture Venezuela’s oil.

A good modern definition is 1. belief in inequality 2. based on a mythological identity.

Unfortunately the marxist-leninists have their own definitions and basically speak a different language.

On reddit you basically have to sort by controversial today and lemmy isn’t far behind. There is a hive mind today where people jump on the hive mind and hate wagon. And public voting will increase that, the whole idea that we need to watch out for the dissident malicious actor stalking social media attests to that. That is something that needs to be tackled through a kind of automated or extremely efficient moderative response to detect bots and voting patterns of malicious actors. Of course the question is if anything can be done at all against this shift in zeitgeist.

What is needed would be a way to anonymize voting through some kind of clever algorithm or blockchain or token or something. Or maybe that can’t work or then prevent any protection against bots.

Public voting is much more of an political and self-conscious act. There is a reason voting in democracies is private.

And there is also a difference if I have to deploy special measures to see who votes how, or if it is made very easy to see and use. Ultimately there should be some kind of crypto algorithm that hides how a user voted from activitypub.

Just tried it. Compared to OsmAnd it’s very easy to use.

I wish there was an “app app” that is just a curated list of app name, description, link to github / other git / fdroid rep / download link, ratings. Could be a formatted markdown fie. Have forks of this list that different people can extend and you can subscribe to different trusted curators with something like version control. Ideally P2P without a central server. Why is it so complicated?

Oh yeah absolutely, lemmy definitely needs better cross posting. Currently crossposts are kinda yanky with quote blocks. I’d also love to see reposts that are detected automatically.

Duplicate instances are a problem imho. You can see the network effect synergy working by how many communities flock to the biggest instance lemmy.world.

There also need to be tools to merge two communities on separate instances, or move them.

Two of my niche instances tried to leave reddit, but then there were two versions, one on .ml and one on .world. Confusing. Maybe there need to be reviews for communities or instances.

Sorry that was a bit hyperbole it would never be an all or nothing. You’d always have limited grass fed animal husbandry for milk and cheese. But my thought was that there should be some sort of rewilding effort for cows or Buffaloes or whatever their wild form even is or was in Europe.

There are other forces at play which is why you have the chrome dominance already. Long term firefox will fall behind if not maintained. There really needs to be a push to finance firefox or alternatives.

The term liberalism has a wide history, associating it as a whole to fascism sounds a stretch.

Socialists seem rather illiberal about the definition and allowed use of the word and concept of liberal. They hear “a liberal?” and think “a fascist!”. I suspect that this greatly plays into the polarization between tankies and limbrols here on lemmy.

For example a newer definition of fascism is 1. belief in inequality based on 2. a mythological identity (e.g. race which isn’t real). That is useful to talk about trumpism vs the neoliberal democrats. But socialists completely refute that and insist it’s both the same fascism because capitalism. Of course they are right in terms of foreign policy, which is absolutely fascist towards “shithole countries” no matter who rules in the white house. Neoliberalism is: 1. belief in inequality based on 2. economic or class status 3. personal freedom to die in whatever way seems best to you.

And once the prosperity is distributed away with rising wealth inequality that does lead to plutocracy and then fascism. And I suspect the socialists are right that without an explicit socialist component in your ideology this outcome is inevitable.

Good for Iran for getting some measure of revenge. It was atrocious of Trump to break the Iran nuclear deal. The US defines sanctions or economic warfare as “acts of war” which is unjustified towards Iran.

Even though US intelligence services said Iran isn’t developing a nuclear weapon, these sanctions and the deal was done to prevent them from developing. This is fundamentally undemocratic behavior because without a modicum of prosperity a country isn’t likely to become more open or democratic. All to support Saudi Arabia (who are worse than Iran) and the exploitation of natural resources in the region.

Individual boycotts might do nothing and the situation becomes worse over time because of network and monopolistic effects. There might be an end to the open internet, requiring a specific browser to visit crucial websites. Or you could get DMCA’d if you use an ad blocker or plugin to alter the function of a website.

Don’t play devils advocate with genocide because of the damage denial can do. Also religious faith can’t be solved or contested through evidence, unlike legal determinations through a court or scientific findings. Giving the same weight or importance to any opinion is post modernism. And if only opinion matters and not truth or facts, then only strength matters.
