I’ve peeked around a bit every now and then and it’s mostly either neutral to negative

A lot of people seem like they didn’t really bother with trying to move and don’t really care that it happened, and a few I’ve seen think that people who moved are being dramatic/overreacting

The content quality over there has dropped a bit too, they still get a lot of traffic and lurkers but a lot of dedicated posters came here. Noticed a lot more reposts than usual there.

Okay, that’s slightly disappointing but nothing surprising. I appreciate the well thought out response, thank you.

Kind of seems like the scale will always be tipped on reddits side but hopefully that doesn’t discourage the people who actually do come here. As long as Lemmy is active, I don’t plan on using anything else. My reddit account was over a decade old and I’m hoping my Lemmy account will last even longer. Should I move instances?

Considering that Reddit was the safe haven for people trying to escape “mainstream” social media who didn’t want anything to do with 4chan, it isn’t surprising that most of the fanbase is loyal to them. It is a little disheartening, indeed, but I guess it’ll take a couple more of these big fuck-ups for something to change noticeably.

I am, however, very fine with the amount of engagement we have here despite the lower user base. Might actually be better exactly because of that.

I mean, the instance isn’t really that important, is it. You can still interact with everything on here regardless of the instance your account is registered to.

That’s true. But it’s also super easy to create a new account on a different instance should that happen. Or you can browse those instances in the browser without an account.

Out of all the people I know irl who are aware of Lemmy, 50% have tried it, and of those, all but one was put off by the tankie mind rot and inconsistent moderation.

And in reality, fuck capitalism. But we don’t need it in every thread. It’s exhausting. And the tankies brand is way more “fuck the US” than “fuck capitalism.” They are just violent, often weirdly bigoted, and poorly informed.

            And in reality, fuck capitalism.

And I mean yes, but it’s a nuanced conversation. Capitalism is off the rails and a lot of people are being hurt by that, but getting things back on the rails isn’t as simple as “just don’t do capitalism” or “do socialism.”

It definitely doesn’t need to be in every thread like you said, because trying to have those repeated nuanced conversations is just exhausting.

But it’s true though. It’s the source of every modern ails. From increased housing to global warmin
