That was not on my bingo card.
Since Neil Peart can’t join for obvious reasons, Anika Nilles will be joining them on the drums. I don’t know much about her, but her career seems impressive, and what little I’ve seen her play is pretty cool.

I could really see how much they miss it. They miss Neil, of course, but I think most Rush fans would agree that Neil would want them to keep having fun playing their music! And I like that Anika is just drumming for them, not necessarily joining the band. What a rare and amazing opportunity for her!

I absolutely love Rush and am a huge fan but I’m afraid of buying tickets to this. I was so lucky to be able to see them once live with Neil and I’m afraid of tainting that memory. Had something like that happen when I saw Yes a second time after loving the first

IIRC, Yes swapped in weirdos who were from genres that were far removed from progrock. And this was after the “core” of the band had already fractured.

I think Lifeson and Lee are so experienced with each other that any capable musician who is able and willing to properly fill a role in Rush can do so without fear of retracting from the whole. Especially considering the absolute legend of a drummer they’re filling in for - I doubt anyone would want to approach the songs with an attitude of "You know what, I’m gonna put my own spin on this. YYZ in 6/8, fuck yeah! "

As for keyboardist, that makes sense, really. Same as before, only with some of Lees parts being offloaded so that he doesn’t have to hide in some corner when he’d rather be up front with his long time friend.

I wish they’d have a European tour as well, but to be fair, my mom is roughly the same age as them, and I get worried when she has to drive for more than a few hours.

And here I’ve been sitting with Subdivisions playing on repeat on my head all day long

tends to happen after a nice playthrough of the song last night on my synth and bass, to be fair

I wonder what their set will consist of? Anything off Moving Pictures would be an easy slam dunk with wide audiences, but that album is basically ancient at this point and their bench is just so dang deep, they could really take this tour in any number of directions.

Regardless of what they choose, I’m glad to have another chance to see some of the goats perform live. And rip Niel! Your poetry is up their with Leonard Cohen as some of my all time favorite work and moves me, along with countless others, to this very day

I think this is going to be their last tour, and they probably think so too, so it’s probably going to be a diverse setlist spanning their entire career.
