my employer gave us macbook pros’ to work on and it so much spyware/malware that it made my router go off like xmas lights; so i setup a linux vm using kvm/qemu on my own hardware and retired the macbook.

i now fully expect my employer to somehow force a return to the macbook; but i’ve already returned it to the company so they’re going to have to buy me a new one when they do so.

both the basque and the catalonians have sought independence and were brutally pushed down by the conservative governments of the very recent past. the current left leaning government has made concessions to keep them on board; but the voting trends for the last 15 years makes it crystal clear that the conservatives will be in power again and both the catalonians and basque are well aware that the the peace will expire in the next election.

Anyone who is not keeping some cash on the side to buy perfectly good assets (like gold) at bargin prices in the next year or so is crazy.

i’m willing to bet most just can’t afford it or are unaware

plus, potential employers have to find a reason to either hire or not hire you; not having a degree is a reason and it means that you have to impress them so much that, that fact doesn’t even occur to them if that’s your situation.

i also didn’t find the article painful; it was refreshing to learn that someone else is walking in these shoes when it feels like so many aren’t.

They do it because rich individuals like Elon have a vice grip control over the tech industry in this country and you don’t need to do it anymore once one of them deigns to give you a reputation as a hard worker that deserves the money (that they themselves don’t deserve).

this one must either have a conscience or is being pressured to subject himself to the law somehow.
