  • From other countries that have regulations: prevent known criminals, known serious mentally ill people, known abusers, from having guns. Enforce gun lockers, and responsible ownership. Enforce education and training.
Most countries still have guns you know. Even just the gun lockers would prevent the us rampant murdering toddlers.

  • I have read your arguments, I just fundamentaly disagree. I do not want to lower the ceiling until valve is as crappy as the rest. I want the floor to rise. Basically valve do not stop other companies from competing. Nothing is stopping EGS from including and contributing to proton. allowing and even helping developers to have their games on multiple marketplaces. Building awesome services to provide to developers.

  • I would not mind if americans used whatever. As long as anything exported from america always!! used metric. As it is now we need 2 complete sets of nuts and bolts, pipes and fittings, tools and gizmos, csbles and connectors. Just imagine the space we could save in our shops and storages if we could /2 the requires spare part storage. Not to mention the time and frustration avoided when doing basically anything on almost anything.

  • If you fell on your face before the camera phone. Your 2 friends laughed at you. Nowadays the whole school laughes at the video of you for a week or more. I am not at all suprised that young people are risk avoidant. I feel so very priveleged that I grew up in the slim timeframe while the internet was new and exciting and made modem warbling noises. And not now in the time when we are permanently connected, and absolutly everything on the internet is trying to exploit you, and have a team of psycoanalysts to make it most effective on you.

  • How often depends on how much work it is to recreate, or the consequences of loosing data.

Some systems do not have real data locally, get a backup every week. Most get a nightly backup. Some with a high rate of change , get a lunch/middle of the workday run.
Some have hourly backups/snapshots, where recreating data is impossible. CriticL databases have hourly + transaction log streaming offsite.

How long to keep a history depends on how likely an error can go unnoticed but minimum 14 days. Most have 10 dailes + 5 weeky + 6 monthly + 1 yearly.

If you have paper recipes and can recreate data lost easily. Daily seems fine.
