You can use an email like Alice+eBay@gmail.com

To sign up for eBay. Now you can filter all of the garbage sent to that address easily! Bonus, you get to see who’s selling your data which is always frustrating and entertaining.

Instance admins can do it.

Most normal users won’t care about any of this because it’ll shake itself out quickly as has happened with Mastodon. But if you do care, join up with a smaller server that plays nice with everybody and enjoy the whole fediverse.
