I didn’t mean the choice of image format is a monopolistic behavior, but that the monopoly puts google in a position that any choice they make, be it a good or bad one, becomes an industry standard, without others having any choice in it.

Well, in my experience, calling it Twitter or any variation helps people stay in negation about the fact that Twitter is dead, and calling it x makes people more likely to open their eyes and delete their account, and losing users is what really hurts musk. I already helped all the people from my close friends circle to move out from that shit.

I find the screen technology itself to be interesting, but it’s more a competition to e-ink devices than to common tablets. However, the price is too high to be well received, unfortunately. I don’t blame the users. There’s usually no way to upgrade android versions, so we get stuck unless we replace the phone, and most people can’t afford to replace their phones so often. I’d go further and say that people shouldn’t be supposed to replace their phones because of a new software version. The android’s distribution model is flawed, we should be able to upgrade our phones the same way we upgrade linux distros. If it was possible, then I would blame users for running unmaintained software.

Do you have access to a computer with an sd card reader? I believe the best and safest thing to do is to connect it to a computer, create disk image from it and try ro use a data recovery tool in the image file.

Edit: if you only have the phone, maybe you could try looking for apps to copy a disk image from the sd card and to recover data or try using some terminal emulator or one of those apps that install a linux distro inside android to use the dd command and then use testdisk and photorec tools. I recommend the second option, because the tools are open sourc and well tested

My guess is that google has been losing the public perception of an innovative company, and started to be felt as a big stable and slow moving one instead, and they’re trying so desperately to take back the previous public perception. They’re seeing the ai hype and the investment microsoft is doing on it. They probably also fear that bing might break their monopoly, and want to fully integrate some ai in their product, to prevent the competition from arising and passing the image of an innovative company.

I have given it a try a few times, to see if it makes sense to search on tiktok. I tried things like “[generic topic I’d like to know more about]”, “history of [topic]”, “[topic] lecture/course”, “how to replace screen of [phone model]”, “how to fix [device model]”, “how to make [recipe]”, [product] review, [software] tutorial, and a few others, both in english and in my mother language, and in all cases, the results were poor, barely related to my search or nonexistent.

It makes me wonder if: 1- people don’t actually search on tiktok as much as people make it look like 2 - there’s some different way to write the search terms that I’m unaware of, or perhaps, the results would be different if I was logged in 3 - people are simply getting poor results and that’s it 4 - my search interests differ too much from what people search on tiktok

This is one thing I would love to actually see some data about, because I have never seen people not using search engines, no matter the age, but I see a lot of people on the internet claiming that younger people don’t use search engines anymore.

There’s one active brand still making e-ink phones, both single and doubled screen. It’s HiSense. The devices look pretty nice.
