No, AuroraOS is the Russian fork of Sailfish.
Sailfish was in kahoots with the developers of Aurora, but they split ties when Putin spat the dummy at Ukraine.
Personally I wouldn’t buy a Jolla C2, but if you can get your hands on an Xperia 10 (working features vary by version, my 10 IV is not too bad but the 10 III is more polished) or a device supported by one of the better community ports, it’s worth a go.

It’s a mixed bag. VoLTE is required in Australia (no 2G or 3G anymore) and SFOS does support it so that’s good, but for some reason calls are stuck on speakerphone as the earpiece speaker doesn’t work. The GPS lock is quite slow. I also don’t have working cameras, and every time I unplug the charger the phone reboots.
On the plus side, the Android app support is really good (though I still use native SFOS apps wherever possible, but for banking etc. its handy). I have no stability problems, its pretty rock solid bar for the charger issue. I’ve daily driven it since about October last year, and honestly if I could make private phone calls it would be perfectly fine for me.
I will note that community developed ports are available for other devices with potentially better hardware compatibility, but the Android app support is not included as it’s proprietary (though Waydroid exists as an alternative) and VoLTE support is touch and go on other devices.
Libre means “with little or no restriction,” whereas Gratis means “at no monetary cost."
I’ll absolutely take FLOSS if I can get it, but failing that, FOSS is still a nice improvement over closed-source software.
You can try, but all the arable land is already taken. There’s a reason nobody lives in the empty spots.
I wrote one of those papers. The fuckers charged me $1000 to publish it as open access, then other journals download it and stick it on their websites and charge $60 to read it. What a joke!

We haven’t had 2G for nearly 8 years. 3G was killed late last year.
It’s such a pain, so many devices don’t support 4G, let alone VoLTE.
Surely 2G isn’t that hard to keep running? It has far better range than 4G, meaning fewer towers are needed. Just keep one or two bands around to make voice calls easier.

That’s half the reason I like Thunderbird. Email hasn’t changed for 20 years, and neither has Thunderbird’s interface. I don’t need shadows and 3D effects and stylised colours and buttons, I just want a white page with black text displaying the content of my incoming messages.
Yet the most popular new cars sold are V8s that weigh 2.5 tonnes and are the size and shape of a brick shithouse. In this country, you can’t even buy a small, economical hatchback new anymore, even if you had the money.
Fuel costs in the 1970s were never anymore than 40¢/Litre, yet that was the “fuel crisis” and the driving force behind econo-boxes. Now at $2.20/Litre, Ford of Australia only sell two whopping big utes, a van, and three ugly SUVs.
My car is old enough to have kids my age, but at least I’ll never have to take it to a mechanic. No computers means I can do everything from valve timing to gearbox rebuilds myself, and parts are dirt cheap because they’re being thrown out all the time.
