I used to have a batch file to create a ram disk and mirror my Diablo3 install to it. The game took a bit longer to start up but map load times were significantly shorter.

leagues are bullshit. the problem is having higher standards for others than for yourself. if you don’t want to settle for someone like yourself, focus on improving yourself not trying to date.

I hope they find a way to add more variety to the gameplay interactions. Not just having a variety of builds that work though that’s important too. but it feels like no matter what your build is you then have the same approach to all encounters. There’s lots of different mob types and random modifiers on them but either it breaks your build and you can’t clear them…or you clear them the same way you clear everything else.

All I can think of are some variations of you trusting a service to validate your id and give you a token that just asserts your id has been validated.

But it’s still not really privacy preserving because it relies on trusting both parties to not collaborate against your privacy. if at some point the id provider decides to start keeping records of what tokens were generated from your id, and the service provider tracking what was consumes with that token, then you can still put it all back together.

If anything they could just leverage their work with proton that allows steam to play windows games on Linux to provide similar compatibility shims for old windows on modern windows

there’s also the impact of having less consistency in hours. i.e if I work Friday and don’t work Monday but am blocked waiting for someone whondoesnt work friday…it’s waiting until Tuesday.

Others have pointed out the concerns around negative reviews of things still subject to change, but the other aspect is just the relations with media.

I’m sure tons of journalists have been playing. And probably even working on content covering the game, but not publishing it yet. Once valve is ready for coverage they’ll have polished content ready. And valve can control the timing so that coverage happens right when they want the hype like maybe a few days before an open beta.

By covering it early you encourage other journalists to do the same, rushing out low quality content to get the views before others do. And for valve to not let any journalists see the game early to avoid this.

I assume they meant check the wattage of the car charger output. some powerbanks have displays now and can show you it’s input or output.

pc has already had this with Xbox game bar and the perf impact isnt really noticable. if I recall correctly modern gpus have some dedicated chips for video rendering that are otherwise idle. I would assume there is some hit to vram that could hurt if you’re limited on it, but for most people it should be fine.

You could just show it as a percentage of max its trying to draw be default and show actual watts under a developer toggle

it’s typically up to the distribution to configure things like that, and many Linux distributions do come in both server and desktop or workstation variants like Ubuntu desktop vs Ubuntu server, or RHEL server vs RHEL Workstation

I can’t say how well they tune these things as I haven’t ran them personally, but they do exist.

You should look into IPMI console access, that’s usually the real ‘only way out of this’

SSH has a lot of complexity but it’s still the happy path with a lot of dependencies that can get in your way- is it waiting to do a reverse dns lookup on your IP? Trying to read files like your auth key from a saturated or failing disk? syncing logs?

With that said i am surprised people are having responsiveness issues under full load, are you sure you weren’t running out of memory and relying heavily on swapping?

the question then becomes how much weight are you adding/energy are you consuming by having to carry the weight. I honestly don’t know and considering how heavy batteries are it is likely not that significant, but if you are only getting a few % charge a day then anything eating into that is going to hurt.

I still see some merit in a more utility style vehicle where you do expect to take it out camping, but for a daily commuter I think most people would prefer the sunroof to the trickle charging.

Also as an apartment dweller… I just wish they’d make normal wall outlets more available. Not everyone needs a proper fast charger but only having a few inconveniently located ones to fight for also sucks. But if more spots could just plug in and slow charge that would be a huge improvement

You should never put hot food in the fridge. Particularly food with a lot of thermal mass like a bowl of soup or thick lasagna. While that would cool the food quicker than just leaving it out, the heat you’re adding is going to heat up the other items in your fridge and risk their safety. And since it will all eventually cool back down it will not be obvious what food was at unsafe temps or how long.

yeah if anything the problem is everything is a TSR program now. the generous explanation is because they want to offer the best experience possible and implement everything themselves.

… but the real explanation is they want more telemetry data, not just when you are using the app. not just when you’ve recently used it. but no you launched it once we must indefinitely run in the background and install services to launch on startup

the biggest downside imo is it can be hard to leave because you’ll feel more connected to everyone involved. but they won’t necessarily be able to pay you much more than you start at even if you do stay. and you’ll be spending that time on more or less the same tech stack which can limit your growth and make it harder when finding a new job later.

id say it’s fine especially as an early job but strongly consider a new job after 2-4 years

There’s a lot of things that make the Bluetooth experience better… it’s just almost all focused on mobile phones, maybe apple laptops if you stay in their walled gardens, but definitely not stock windows.

I say stock because if you do use windows and want to use Bluetooth you can improve things with a third party driver https://www.bluetoothgoodies.com/a2dp/ it’s still not great but at least you can use better codecs than default

for earbuds it’s useful as many modern phones can share their battery to wirelessly charge another device, so you can top up your earbuds off of your phone while you’re out somewhere and not need to lug around a charger and cable.

For wirelessly charging phones, I agree the pad style chargers defeat a lot of the point, but I am a fan of the dock-style wireless chargers. I have one at my desk and can just glance at my phone to see notifications, and I have to set my phone somewhere anyways, so this lets me top up my phone without really thinking about it.
