As a woman, I really feel bad for men in our society, especially straight men. They get very little positive interaction at all. I like to compliment strangers; it usually makes my day when somebody says, “I like your hair,” or whatever, and I like to spread the joy. But I have to be cautious about giving compliments to men. A lot of them look at me weirdly if I say, “nice tie,” or “snazzy shirt.” I smile, say it, then move on so they don’t feel obligated to respond. It appears most of them aren’t used to it and don’t know how to handle it. I guess other men don’t compliment them (maybe for fear of being thought gay?) and women don’t, either (for fear of encouraging stalking or harassing behavior). It makes me sad to think of all the lonely people who get no affirmation from anybody. I’m old enough now that my days of being constantly sexually harassed are over, so I feel safe offering a few nice words.
Gay men, OTOH, totally know how to give and take a compliment.
I have a theory that part of this is due to the dying out of religion as a way to keep the masses in line.
I agree with everything you said except the idea that I was being dismissive. It’s terribly concerning, especially if the symptoms have arisen recently. Because it often takes a long time to arrive at a proper diagnosis, it’s important to start down that path at once.
It should be tied to federal minimum wage. You want a raise? The rest of us get one, too.
If this feels new rather than something you’ve always dealt with, please get evaluated by a doctor right away. Nobody on Lemmy can diagnose you over the Internet.
Just today I was searching for a news article about a local radio personality who got fired in the last few days. Zero relevant results. Just extraneous garbage. I was stunned.
Thanks
Is there an idiot guide how to do this? I’ve never pirated and I don’t currently have a VPN. I use my Xbox for streaming straight to my TV using HDMI. I see posts like yours with various words like Plex, overseerr, docker, jellyfin, etc., and I don’t know where to even start. I could Google it, but among the hundreds of results, I don’t know which things are reputable, functional, and not malware.
Right? Such a good show.
Instead of more slaughter, I’d like to see them provide land and assistance for a new Palestine in a safe place. Instead they won’t even take in refugees.
Hopefully, in the next few minutes
This. I don’t mind ignorance. The ignorant can always be educated. I mind WILLFUL ignorance. Those who refuse to look at facts or use reason when confronted with something that contradicts their world view. THOSE are the stupid people.
There seems to be a shortage of critical thinking and problem solving skills, that’s for sure.
What I see that makes it worse now than in the past is the Internet. It’s easy now to find a group that agrees with your delusions and live in an echo chamber where mistaken beliefs are not challenged.
So … don’t you need paper to dry off? How do you keep from spraying water everywhere and getting your clothes wet? Forgive my cluelessness, but I’ve often wondered how it works.
Yep, and if you folded it, the little pointy edges would lacerate your tender bits.
To define “fruit,” reference Galatians 5:22-23 - “… the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.”
Yep. I live in Texas, and the cognitive dissonance here is epic.
I take off my shoes at home, but at my best friend’s house I leave them on because she has pets and the floors are always filthy.
