I guess the glory of Japanese BBC facts are forever locked away from me.
Edit: Memmy reposted this comment 4 times and then promptly crashed. This proves my theory that Memmy is sentient and does not approve of criticism of any kind.
If you want to get away from just Google, you can try iCloud or whatever Microsoft calls their Mail product now. If you want to get away with big tech run products, I recommend Proton. Of course you can always go full tinfoil hat and host your own email server with your own domain, but that will set you back at least 7 bucks a year, even if you for the cheapest register (Cloudflare, they don’t add their own fees at all, so you can’t really go lower).
That’s right, if we kick the bucket, a new intelligent civilization would not have the resources to advance at our pace. They may figure out the atom, but they won’t have the resources to utilize their knowledge. Then there is the ever looming threat of a disaster, and these preindustrial civilizations will be wiped out with zero warning or preparation.
Also: what are the chances a species similar to us in intelligence will emerge again on this rock? I’m going to bet it’s pretty darn tiny.
No, that has been a feature for years on iOS and iPadOS. I’m talking about movable apps, like a desktop, a feature many android phones have. Only iPadOS has this feature to date.
Neither floating apps nor split screen were ever released for iOS. Split screen was added a while ago for iPadOS, but floating apps (Stage Manager) was released just last year.
Kills EVERY germ, rat, and roach in the room!
Right. The amount people with good intentions looking for vulnerabilities in open source software far outnumbers the amount of malicious actors looking for vulnerabilities.
Right. The amount people with good intentions looking for vulnerabilities in open source software far outnumbers the amount of malicious actors looking for vulnerabilities. Chances are great that, by the time malicious actors find a vulnerability, someone with good intentions is working on a patch already.
I can see it!
Lemmy.world was defaced last night. As far as I know, there is no DB breach. An XSS vulnerability was abused to steal the cookies of an admin account.
Nice! Yeah, seems to be that lemmy.world logo emoji that stole your cookies. There were people compromised accounts posting them everywhere on .world.
They seem to be down at the moment. I seriously hope SJW is not affected.
Same, my friend, same
Damn. SJW and .world share the same lemmy source code. Could what is happening to .world happen to SJW? I’d take a dig into the lemmy code, but my brain is literal mush right now, its 11:16 PM here.
I don’t know. I’m running the latest version of Firefox, which does not have any publicly known severe vulnerabilities. I also happen to be running the latest version of macOS, and most malware target Windows. I have not seen any suspicious activity, so I think I’m good. I did harden my OS and browser a bit when I set things up, so that might have made a difference. I would run a scan with Malwarebytes if I were you. Good luck. Hopefully its just a troll.
Yeah, I get that too, minus the Reddit part. However, during the ten minute span where the attack was resolved (then restarted), a mod/admin account reported that it was caused by a compromised admin account, so not Reddit taking over the site via copyright law. They removed the account, but the issue seems to be back now.
Its a broader problem. Memmy shows this error even with normal text. For me personally, it is very common and occurs far more frequently than it actually working.
