Ideally, we get an democrat Bernie or AOC presidency, who then runs for a second term as an independent. Incumbents tend to have name recognition, which would make it easier to give the DNC the Old Yeller treatment. The Geronocrats have a callow ambition, even if progressives manage to Tea Party things. After all, the DNC’s bluebloods will want to retake the throne. It would be best if the throne that they treasure was lost outright.
It certainly feels that way. I simply have no faith in the DNC, let alone the likes of the GOP. I am of the opinion that our political system simply lacks the flexibility needed to reflect the interests of ordinary people. Just look at how medical benefits, SNAP, NOAA, our sciences, federal workers, due process, and so much more are being deconstructed. All for the sake of a small group of people to see their numbers go up.
It would be good to be wrong about this feeling. Unfortunately, hope is rarely a good companion of prudence.

As a very lazy person, I would prefer to coast throughout my life and not worry about much. Unfortunately, that gets harder with each year that passes: the economy is getting worse, RFK wants to send me to an wellness farm, innocents are being trafficked to death camps in El Salvador, and rules that erode liberty for the everyday person are being imposed upon us.
If people like myself don’t get into a “start over” mindset, we might end up paying the price for the rest of our lives.
No, he hasn’t really held back. The worst damage has its effects delayed, but will become apparent within two years: The elimination of food and drug standards, the death of NOAA’s weather services, the destruction of our scientific institutions, cutting of federal workers of every category.
Our society has been hollowed into a house of cards, and will only require a breeze for everything to fall apart.
Technically, it isn’t a vote for secession, but rather a vote for dedicating resources towards researching the option. Which, honestly, would be better IMO. It gives California options, since we don’t exactly know how things will look two-four years from now. We could have AOC sweeping out Trump in a special election, we could have Trump’s parade murdering civilians who block the procession, we simply don’t know.
So we should all prepare our blue states for the possibility of conflict, be it knowledge, resources, or institution. Hope for the best, expect the worst.
Here is the CalExit website. We got 210,000+ signatures through there, probably a bit more through other means. Hopefully Californians would do the right thing and reach the petition’s requirement. California should R&D the possibility of secession sooner, rather than have many surprises if later forced into a crisis.
The crimson lining is that we might get to build a new United States, free of the GOP and DNC. The problem is the nature of that crimson.

Personally, I think government systems are actually a type of technology. Unfortunately, they aren’t the kind of research where you can easily experiment and iterate upon, since people tend to die in massive numbers if the experiment fails.
Good. Vacation homes should be taxed, and foreigners should get an even bigger tax. Local citizens and businesses should get preferable treatment, so that communities can be more closely knit together. The wealthy are corrosive to society, breaking down many humans for the sake of a few.
Children, in this context, would mean new institutions that arise after the prior generation has fallen. Such as the American government after British rule had been destroyed in the colonies, the assorted dynasties in China, or the conquest of Constantinople by a caliphate. In any case, the scale isn’t particular important. The gist is that institutions become increasingly corrupt and ineffective over time, until fresh blood topples the power structure and replaces it with something that has vitality. Over time, the new becomes old and is replaced in turn. It could be decades or centuries, but eventually stratification simply weighs down a society too much for establishment leadership to continue. The loss of failing leadership is rejuvenating to the people, even if culture is lost in the process.
Obviously not everything would track cleanly, but that is fundamentally the case for anything that involves human action. Be it cults, empires, or households, deterioration tends to be a thing. It is just that the biggest of these have the most research and records, because they are too big and obvious to miss.

I think the solution is Universal Basic Income with benefits, paired with fixed income ranks. Everyone within a rank gets exactly the same pay each year. Each job class falls into a specific rank, determined by objectively developed ERK metrics - Effort, Risk, Knowledge. Wealth and assets is capped alongside income, so someone like Bezos, Musk, or Trump can’t have excessive wealth. In addition to this, I think that education should be treated as a paying job, rather than something that student pay for. A student forced to be a barista isn’t able to focus on mastering their intended specialty, which is bullshit.
IMO, money should be for upgrading lifestyle, not used for survival. This would allow people to freely strike or protest, since their income doesn’t dictate whether they get to eat or have a place to live.
While my concept is completely artificial, I would argue that the excessively wealthy distorts economic reality - so we might as well go with an deliberate distortion that serves everybody, rather than the few.
