I’m assuming it’s the same root, yes. “Folklore” in German means the same thing, although we pronounce it differently. Don’t ask me why we don’t spell it “Volklore” - if I had to guess, I’d say the term is older than the spelling “Volk”, not least because “Lore” on its own doesn’t exist (anymore) in German.

We do still use the word though, without associating it with the Third Reich at all. It’s a neutral way to refer to ethnicities for example. “Wir sind das Volk” (“we are the people (of this country)”) means the sovereignty of the people.

“Völkisch” however is tainted (and when non-Germans use “Volk”, it is indeed at least suspicious).

It doesn’t matter that these niche topics don’t get many views because making them these videos requires no effort. They’re throwing everything at the wall and some of it will stick, even if it’s just for a little while.

Definitely, and thank you for doing that. I didn’t mean to say it’s weird to stand up for someone else, I’d do the same and I’d hope someone else would if my art was ever stolen. The important part here is bringing proof. The fact that they didn’t do that strongly suggests they either were careless and messed up or, as apparently seems more likely, intentionally throwing out false accusations on behalf of some third person, the reasons for which baffle me.

Goodness gracious, I’ve seen a lot of internet art drama but this is new.

What possible reason could one have to accuse someone of stealing a third person’s art without proof? I can very vaguely understand falsely claiming it as your own work because that gets you (temporary) attention. But on behalf of someone else? Why? The only scenario that makes sense to me is that Red thought they’d seen the art elsewhere, didn’t properly check before throwing out accusations, and this is them desperately trying to save face instead of simply saying “whoops, you’re right, my mistake, I should’ve checked first, sorry”.

Sidenote: how is this “off-site drama”?
