How do you expect a group of individuals to shoot down jets and incoming rockets, or form supply lines, or strategise at the level required to mount an effective defence, or maintain the necessary international relationships to ensure bullets keep getting delivered? I never claimed that defending yourself was the same as commanding an army. In fact my whole point was that it’s not. You haven’t addressed the core criticism of your post which is that a group of individuals can in no way be as effective as an army.

Yes Ukrainians have been defending themselves with home made drones…and jets, and artillery, and air defence missiles, and … an army. That’s why there is still a Ukraine.

I was incorrect to assert that the figure you presented was based on the new NBS methodology as the world bank uses standard methodology as you said and is the most reliable comparison.

It’s worth pointing out that they source their statistics from ILO who get their data from national agencies as far as I can tell so it’s not perfect but probably as good as we can get.

This is even more true today as the amount of technology and co-ordination required to field a successful force is many orders of magnitude more complex. It is truly insane to suggest that people can just ‘defend themselves’ against an army unless I’m grossly misunderstanding your point.

Well said, it’s definitely a frustrating situation. I’ve also done my best through the proper channels, I don’t think much in the way of constructive action is likely to come from it but hopefully I’m wrong. At least from the many downvotes it seems like we’re far from alone but that also makes it more frustrating in a way.

It’s also worth pointing out that from memory more than half the Guardian articles cited by MBFC as having failed fact checks were corrected or removed.

Also there is currently a pinned feedback thread on the news community asking for feedback on the bot so please post your thoughts in there if you haven’t already.

I prefer to downvote because if everyone who doesn’t like it blocks it then it won’t get downvoted and people might assume there’s general agreement with the misinformation shared by the bot.

Yeah, that’s a good point to bring up. It would still be pretty risky though I would think. I don’t know what the policy of the US and other nuclear powers is exactly but I doubt anyone would be taking Russia at it’s word as to where the nuke was going. Hopefully we never have to find out though.
