100% this, I’ve been a few times to pubs etc. where they tell you the kitchen closing time separately from the pub closing time but then when you try to order food before that they say they already took last orders because the kitchen staff finish at that time.

Like bro, politely I do not care what time your staff finish their shift, it doesn’t affect me. As a customer, I care what time service ends - that’s the time that should be included on the opening hours to the public.

  • Definitely agree the UK wouldn’t get the same terms it had before but I think currency is probably something they could negotiate to keep.

The UK was before and hypothetically would be again one of the biggest economies in the EU and the politicians know what the symbolism of giving up currency would mean to the British.

I really just couldn’t see them letting that stand in the way.

Having said all that, UK isn’t going to be trying to join the EU for a while yet, if ever.

  • This is never something I’d have even thought about being privatised, I guess I just assumed it was always in the interest of local authorities to make sure there isn’t just shit piling up everywhere and pay for it through taxation. It’s also surely much more cost effective to centralise.

Today I not only discover that isn’t the case, but that you also commonly have to pay extra to recycle. Like what?! Do poorer people have to just not have their bins collected? Or make a choice about whether things get recycled?!

This has absolutely blown my mind!

If you take it to a refuse & recycling centre yourself (I assume those exist with public access), do you have to pay for that too?!

  • I think that’ll only really start to happen once you start getting more of the general population on here.

Reddit always had a reputation for being dominated by techy people, that is significantly more so the case here.

Signing up for Lemmy, even knowing where to start is a bigger leap than it is over there. Personally I’m hoping third party apps will be able to help with that by offering some kind of setup wizard with easy options of suggested instances to join.
