Summary

Federal workers condemned a Trump administration email urging mass resignations, calling it a coercive and legally dubious move influenced by Elon Muskā€™s cost-cutting approach.

The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) offered ā€œdeferred resignationsā€ while warning remaining employees of potential layoffs.

Critics, including unions and Democratic lawmakers, warned of widespread disruption to essential services.

The emailā€™s phrasing echoed Muskā€™s past layoffs at Twitter, raising concerns about the administrationā€™s intentions.

Senator Tim Kaine urged workers not to accept the offer, citing Trumpā€™s history of broken promises.

This is wildly inaccurate. Itā€™s not a buyout as you suggest. Itā€™s a ā€deferred retirementā€- which basically means you quit in 8 months and still get to show up to work between now and then.
