Bit late for that now Schulz.

VW ditched all their engines for Ford engines already.

It’s a bit hyperbolic, it’s only the TDI engines that got dropped for Ford engines, as the TDI engines couldn’t pass Euro6 without more engineering work than buying Ford’s engines cost.

Shame though, since those Ford diesels are woeful and despite the NOx emissions, the TDI’s were really good.

The fines don’t make sense to me. If the cars are supposed to meet some specific standard but don’t a fine will make it a business problem to hey to pass the cost of the fine along to the consumer. Consider the pickup trucks in the US: typically worse emissions per passenger compared to a “commuter vehicle”.

If something doesn’t pass regulation, why should it be allowed to be sold at all?

because the car manufacturers become the tank manufacturers in time of war, they cannot be allowed to die out, and thus they are spoiled rotten.

Because “Think of the economy”! Except the economy didn’t think to take the hint and now demands to be pampered.

I just spoke to a time traveller and they told me that this idea of Scholz’s might not have been the most forward-thinking of plans.
