Heh. Even ignoring the shithead lead dev and the Star Wars Kid levels of combat where swords can cut through platemail, it always amuses me when people talk about how the first KCD is a ridiculously hardcore and old school game.

It isn’t. It is fricking Call of Duty with how many stat pop ups you get for various actions and how you unlock all your feats. And, to clarify, that is not a bad thing (number gotta go up!). But people try to pretend this is a Gothic or something when it REALLY is a ridiculously modern open world game.

Yeah. It’s not hard because it involves skill it’s hard because your stats are low. Once you raise them up by doing things, it’s just mechanical clunk.

However I really like how this simple RPG system ties in with the story of Henry and how ordinary he is in the beginning of the story. It really makes you feel like a loser in the first half of the game and then a murdering millionaire working multiple jobs and an expert in couple of disciplines towards the end.

Never heard this take before but KoA:R is a bards tale level RPG. Nothing even remotely hardcore, but not balanced for children either.
