    It shouldn’t go to the convention, but I think an announcement smack dab in the middle of the Republican convention would be great.

        Also, you’ve got 2-3 big news days in a switch. And since whoever the replacement will be won’t be on death’s door, the VP announcement can be timed for political benefit.

        1. Biden backs out of the race
        2. Replacement is named (might be merged with #1 if Harris is installed by Biden)
        3. VP is named

          Hell, have a debate for VP during the convention, addressing progressive issues that you have no intention of doing to increase voter support, and have the delegates vote on the VP. They’re so focused on decorum that it stifles enthusiasm.
