Pyae Phyo Zaw is one of at least 10 business owners arrested in recent weeks after word circulated online that they were increasing their workers’ pay. Raising wages has not been outlawed, but the business owners are charged with undermining the regime by making people believe that inflation is rising, one legal expert said. They all face three years in prison.
I guess employers are allowed to raise wages if no one knows about it.
The junta will be in deep shit if or when the National Unity Government decides to issue its own currency to compete with the junta-issued Burmese kyat. Especially if that currency is backed with USD or some other hard currency or resources.
Fight inflation by arresting the rich, you say… Hmm, I think it’s worth a try. 🤪
