I sure hope they make him say “Guns. Lots of guns…” at some point to reference both The Matrix and the fact that Shadow’s first game was memed to death because he uses guns.
I also hope Sonic, at one point, says he sounds familiar because Sonic is already a Keanu fanboy in the movies.

Idris Elba was a casting that shouldn’t have worked but turned out amazing. Kind of like Will Smith in Aladdin.
He was an amazing straight man.

What’s wrong with Elba’s Knuckles?
Knuckles simply does not sound nor act right. Looking at it now, reportedly his original plan for the character was far worse. He’s just not that good of an actor. Elba was good in The Wire and Luther, but his other roles are primarily trading on the popularity from those.
Edit: More to the point about the way Knuckles acts, he’s been Flanderised, diluted down into worn out dumb strong guy character tropes and then amplified. I really don’t like that. /Edit
But then, given that we’re in a thread excited about Keanu Reeves taking a role, I’m probably preaching to the wrong crowd. Reeves is an amazing person and a great action movie star, but action movies don’t exactly require much acting, either. He gets a pass though because he’s such an awesome dude. Elba’s a bit of a sell out.

If you have an issue with Knuckles’s character being Flanderized, that doesn’t really have anything to do with Elba’s performance.
Knuckles has always been dumb. His introduction in StH3 was about Robotnik tricking him into thinking Sonic was trying to steal the master emerald.
The times that he’s appeared the dumbest were the more comedic character-driven stories, not something specific to Knuckles.
