is there any way to sort the communities by subscriber count? I want to view the ones that dont have many subscribers, there’s probably some interesting ones - but I dont want to page through who knows how many pages there are to see them.

doable?

Not sure how new it is… I’ve been using it a few days. It is a search tool for both instances and communities.

that seems to sort instances by subscriber count - I want to sort the communities on lemmy.world only, from least to greatest

Right, that site gives the option to view either instances or communities. Select communities, then follow my original instructions. It sorts greatest to smallest but you can cycle through pages with the “next” button and quickly go to the end, accomplishing your goal.

So far this sort of discoverability of communities has been hard for me too ( as someone who has been using Lemmy for <1 day). I wish there was somewhere I could go to at least get some recommendations of places to join that are semi popular and might fit my interests rather than having to go deliberately seek a specific thing out myself. It’s also why I never got into Mastodon much. Wonder if such a thing exists.
