I started listening to Sonic Youth when I was in high school. Sister, which this song is on, and the followup Daydream Nation are my favorite albums of theirs. There was a period during my sophomore year where I listened to the whole 70 minutes of Daydream Nation every night before going to bed.
each sonic youth album makes me think “no way they top this” then they top it. nuts discography
Bad Moon Rising is my favorite. It holds a special place for me.
I like their earlier stuff, but I feel like they weren’t in their final form until Steve Shelley joined. His drumming really drives the songs forward.
Rather Ripped is probably my second favorite. Steve Shelley is definitely a great drummer.
I haven’t really given anything after Murray Street a listen, other that Incinerate, which is one of those songs Spotify would recommend to me constantly. I think I’ll start exploring their later catalog soon.
Rather Ripped and Sonic Nurse are both very, very good later albums! :)
It’s less solid, but I also adore some songs on The Eternal (Antenna, What We Know, Walking Blue, and Massage the History)
