These are the cheapest source of new electricity, and are generally cheaper than running existing coal-burning power plants

The cliche is “Nero fiddled while Rome burned”. I guess the term “fiddle” has changed over the years, and depends on context. In the US today, fiddle almost exclusively means a violin used for certain play styles.

The original stories did claim (now debated) that he spent it playing a stringed instrument of whatever variety.

The fake reason he gives for this suicidal policy is aesthetics, right? So he prefers the sight of a coal fired power plant to wind turbines? Or should I just give up trying to understand?

I think the latest is that solar and wind “steal” farmland. Basically, the claim is that your grocery bill is going up not because of tariffs, but because solar farms are robbing the country of places to grow your food.

But water is the limiting factor, not acreage. Those Saudi horses deserve the finest alfalfa hay we can provide them, even if some of you starve.

There’s a whole section in The Art of the Deal devoted to how a Saudi guy had a nicer apartment than him and how he built a whole apartment building so he could have a nicer $50 million penthouse.

I have always been baffled by the aesthetics argument. There is anther city I sometimes visit and the best part of the drive is this stretch of highway that goes on for several miles where you are flanked by windmills. There are hundreds in total and to me they are borderline awe inspiring. Absolutely gorgeous.

This doesn’t really surprise me from Trump. Why would he care about global warming? If some coal and oil people stroke his ego a bit of course he will sacrifice global climate for them.

It does surprise me that there’s any support for this amongst his base though.

Here in Australia our conservative party was slaughtered at the last election. There were a number of reasons but a key reason is their poor position on climate change. Now with their party decimated they’re trying to re-brand and bounce back. Their big idea? Discard carbon emission goals. Fuck trying to make everything more efficient, who would want that right?
