See https://lemmy.world/c/football for an example of what we would like to do.
The moderation team would stay the same. We’ll keep a pinned post here to say we are moving.
We’ll promote it on !communitypromo@lemmy.ca and !newcommunities@lemmy.world
Impact for people here would be minimal. We can even ping regular posters and commenters like https://lemmy.world/post/24312613
We can always revisit later if needed.
You can vote below about this decision. We’ll see what the decision is in 24h hours.
Vote extended to Monday evening US time. We can then discuss what we want to do then.
Close a community with 2,500 subscribers in favor of one with 69 in the name of properly branding? To me, why not embrace the most active, worts and all.
No need to rush this process either. The time table so far has seemed rather accelerated. Give time for casual people to weigh in.
Subscribers don’t really mean much if there is no activity. As we can see from this poll, there has only been 36 votes so far.
Most of the people have already moved to !showsandmovies@lemm.ee, which has 2k users per month compared to 531 here.
How long would you like to keep the poll open? We can at least keep it for 48 hours and review later, I’ll edit the post.
Edit: active users this week
Most of the activity in that community seems to be Skavau posting though? When I open both communities in the normal UI, this one feels more engaging since it’s discussion posts by people.
In the event of the transition, television will be promoted heavily. This particular community, moviesandtv has clearly seen better days. I used communities to promote ObscureMusic and quidlupled its activity (going from like 30 subscribers to over 165), and have had other people posting due to this.
Makes sense to me, if you’re on board then I’d say go for it.
