662·5 days agoFrom a Canadian point of view, seeing as there is no direct route to the lower 48 without going through Canadian sovereign land, this seems like nothing more than another way to force Canada into becoming the 51st state.
Fuck Putin and Trump.

World News@lemmy.world•A machine learning approach to carbon emissions prediction of the top eleven emitters by 2030 and their prospects for meeting Paris agreement targetsEnglish
21·5 days agoUsing data from 1990 to 2023, we apply a robust data pipeline comprised of six machine learning models and sequential squeeze feature selection incorporating eleven economic, industrial, and energy consumption variables. We have modelled the scenario with an average prediction accuracy of 96.21%. Results indicate that Russia is on track to exceed its reduction targets, while Germany and the United States will fall slightly short. China, India, Japan, Canada, South Korea, and Indonesia are projected to miss their commitments by significant margins.

World News@lemmy.world•Greta Thunberg: “They kicked me every time the flag touched my face”English
9·8 days agoIsrael adopted the victim mentality a long time ago. Yes, they were victims of the Holocaust and yes, the world had treated them like shit for thousands of years.
The thing is that they adopted their victimhood unequivocally and then became like the spoiled child who knows how to manipulate their ‘parents’ to get what they want. And it’s worked.
There was a time when Israel at least tried to act like a nation of people who wanted to grow, but since Netanyahu and his right-wing alliances took power Israel has become no better than Hamas – using genocidal violence to lead.

42·21 days agoLogic doesn’t have to operate on true statements.
Logic is based on facts, ie: if you jump into a pool > you will get wet.

World News@lemmy.world•The Siberian Tundra Is Exploding. New Research Helps Explain Why | Spontaneous gas explosions appear to be increasing in northern Russia because of climate change and some specific local conditions.English
11·1 month agoThis study critically reviews the existing models and concludes that focused deep heat and gas from below the permafrost may be the key factor allowing the formation of GECs, while atmospheric heating indirectly triggers their formation by accelerating cryogenic process rates and the formation of new lakes and rivers. GECs appear to be associated with faulting in the area and form where sub-lake or sub-river talik structures meet local thinning of the permafrost.
