Agreed, these people were completely fine with subpar leaders for a long time. They only jumped ship because they saw it was sinking and they’re interested in self-preservation.

Secretly pray? These guys are morons. Why not join the over 200 and growing voices loudly denouncing Trump? That’ll do more!

There’s a lot of anxiety about what Trump does to Republican ability to win in 2028

They think that he won’t try again if he looses and he is still alive in 2028?

If only there was something that they could have done to stop him from running at all. Like maybe one or two opportunities to have him impeached that they could have seized in the past.

There is just this concern that like, ‘OK, if the party just goes in that direction, then what kind of party is it going forward?

And yet no thoughts of “what kind of party is it that allows this situation to happen twice”.

The outlet also claims concerned Republicans hope Trump’s loss is by a wide margin in order to help stifle any attempts to cast doubt on the legitimacy of his hypothetical defeat.

I bet that “wide margin” they are looking for would be easier if they stopped rigging the system to suppress and underrepresent opposition voters.

The GOP isn’t going to be able to give up Trump until he’s dead - too much of their base is tied up with Trump for them to ever go against him. And even after Trump is dead, there will be a hundred disciples and imitators following in his footsteps, dragging the party further down the path of xenophobia, fascism, and corruption.

I think its going to be even worse. Because so much of the Trump cult of personality is tied to conspiracy theories, his eventual death from old age will not be believed, and a fraction of his followers will believe he was killed. I can’t imagine what that segment of people will do when their identity is so tied to Trump’s and they believe he was silenced.

Yep, Trump has already fucked the party. They think the party is going to go back to the McCain style Republicans when Kushner, Eric Trump, Vance, MTG, etc. are willing to step up and keep the nutters voting.

I think they’ll have to make a tough decision to either keep going along with this shit or bifurcate. Cowards will just do the former, unfortunately.

Well, they had a chance to tell the Tea Partiers they were nuts, and didn’t. Doubled down and got Sarah Palin.

Now they’ve had 3 chances to tell the MAGAt’s to get bent… and haven’t.

Several notable Republican cowards figures also want the former president to lose to Kamala Harris but aren’t saying so publicly, according to Politico.

    FTFY.

In a statement, Trump spokesperson Brian Hughes told the outlet that Trump has “unified the GOP like never before” and “expanded his coalition of support across partisan lines to Democrats and Independents.”

Riiiight. I definitely believe the hype machine. /s
