In the coming months Mozilla will launch support for an open ecosystem of extensions on Firefox for Android on addons.mozilla.org (AMO). We’ll announce a definite launch date in early September, but it’s safe to expect a roll-out before the year’s end.

yeah! but I want to be able to install any local XPI.
I don’t want to be restricted to install extension only available on AMO.
    I don’t like walled gardens.

This is great! Hope they bring it to iOS as well. This could really help to convince a lot of people to switch to Firefox.

It cannot come to iOS until Apple allows Gecko to come over. It may happen eventually if Apple ever loosens up more on what engine is allowed besides Safari.

I can’t see it helping much unfortunately in bringing more over, since Firefox desktop isn’t that big either.

Firefox on Android would be perfect for me, if I could ever figure out why Firefox randomly freezes using the Google search fixer addon from time to time, and if Firefox would ever get tablet support (tabs).
